My work examines the fluid in-betweenness of public spaces. Through pseudo-archaeological research and a focused investigation of these shifting borders, particularly in urban residential areas, my artistic practice delves into the fabric of public space and our interactions within it. This approach not only uncovers the physical and social layers of these spaces but also questions how they are used and perceived.
Central to my work are inquiries into the ownership and boundaries of these spaces and the factors that shape these rights. For instance, I explore the fine line between what is considered vandalism and what is viewed as artistic or expressive intervention. By scrutinizing instances where public space is altered—whether through graffiti, unofficial installations, or spontaneous acts—I investigate how these actions challenge traditional notions of ownership and control. Are they mere acts of vandalism, or do they represent a form of resistance or reappropriation?
I address these questions through a combination of studio work, on-site observation, and collaborative creative processes. This multifaceted approach allows me to engage with the spaces directly, capturing the nuances of their transformation and the diverse ways people interact with them. By blending artistic practice with observational research, I aim to shed light on the complex relationship between individuals and public spaces, revealing how these areas are continuously negotiated and redefined.
Currently living and working in Antwerp, Belgium, I hold a Master of Fine Arts degree from Sint Lucas Antwerp. My work has been exhibited at the Festival van de Architectuur 2023 at DE SINGEL, and I have participated in exhibitions at S.M.A.K., Kunsthal Gent, Extra City Antwerpen, Callewaert & Vanlangendonck Gallery, Pizza Gallery, Ponti Space, and Geukens and De Vil. In January 2024, I recieved the ‘Opkomend Talent’ scholarship by the Flemish government.
