… was here’ borrows from perhaps the most clichéd yet enduring tagline in graffiti — the familiar formula “[name] was here,” a classic declaration of “I existed.” The title’s ellipsis functions as a textual placeholder, suggestive of the countless identities that could occupy its place. By removing the name and displaying the phrase in neon on a building’s façade, the work places itself in an architectural setting. It becomes a gentle tribute to the ongoing transformation of the architectural context, highlighting the ephemerality of both structure and viewer.
‘... was here’, was orignally created for the exhibition Bow A Head and is now a permanent part of the building housing Kunstcollectief Tarmac, later an additional edition was made for the fourth edition of Doel Festival in 2025.
In March 2026,
an additional edition was permanently installed at De Warande, Turnhout for the exhibition Onder de stoep, het strand.
